My name is John, I’m 39 years old and I just want to share my story. Over the last 3 years, people have asked me if I have ever done voiceover jobs because I have a modulated and unique voice. I would say NO since it is the truth but it got me interested over time. So after a lot of thinking, I decided I would like to give it a shot. The best thing that can happen is that I would actually land into a good voice over role, and the worst is that it will be a wasted effort and I don’t get to find any work at all. Either way, I’ll be fine. At least I know I tried.
Now, my problem is I didn’t have the slightest idea where to start so I did a little research. I joined forums, viewed websites, read articles and practically followed several voice over professionals on Twitter in an attempt to learn about their style and strategies. I also hoped to pick up something I could use to take control and further my career. It was then that I found out that the competition in this area is fierce. In order to get noticed, I need to have an edge over the others- one that can only be achieved by developing my voice through quality training. And that’s when I learned about Andrew Carlton and his free video tutorials on YouTube. I watched every bit of it, they were short videos but definitely full of useful tips that I can use. I also listened to his recordings and read lots of articles about him. That’s how I came to know about the man and his strong determination get to where he is now. He is quite an excellent example of greatness achieved through hard work and ambition. He was not afraid to try new techniques to improve his skills and better his craft.
And I sincerely appreciate that despite his busy schedule, Andrew personally put together a guide to equip aspiring talents like me with what’s necessary to succeed in the fast-paced, unpredictable environment of the voiceover world. Some of it is very much what I expected to read such as how to be a professional voice over artists, what to consider when setting up a recording studio, how to deal with clients and most importantly, how to sell your talent, but there were also pointers that will certainly help pave the way for beginners like me.
I would also like to point out and share a very important element that Andrew mentioned in one of this videos. In this particular webinar, Andrew Carlton Voiceover training video 2-1, he revealed how to turn strangers into clients. It’s something I really appreciate to be learning about. While it is tough to land into a good voiceover role, it is not absolutely impenetrable. For someone who is very much interested in a voiceover career, I thank Andrew for taking the time and energy to come up with this helpful presentation. The videos have been such a useful resource to the voiceover community and I appreciate the efforts!
